About Olivier Jaillon

I grew up in Paris and Monte Carlo, by the Mediterranean. As a teenager I taught myself to code, and while still a student I started my first company.

I have spent most of my career in insurance. I founded a brokerage, launched France’s first online insurance site, and bought La Parisienne, one of the country’s oldest insurers. After a few years in New York building an insurance software company, I came back to Europe and turned La Parisienne into Wakam, a digital insurer that powers embedded insurance through APIs. I ran it for more than two decades and now chair its board.

I also co-chaired a white paper on blockchain for Institut Montaigne, served on the boards of the Tezos Foundation and Groupe Lucien Barrière, and wrote a novel called Patrimoine éphémère. Much of my curiosity now goes into artificial intelligence and what it can do for insurance — through Off The Grid.

Off The Grid is based in Paris and Milan, through two entities: Off The Grid SAS, at 23 rue Etienne Marcel, 75002 Paris, and Off The Grid SRL, at Corso di Porta Romana 3, 20122 Milano. I move between them, and between Paris, Rome and Ibiza, depending on the season and the work.

I support philanthropic work through Wakam for Good, including the Precision Mind Award.

I studied at EM Lyon and Bocconi, and later did INSEAD’s leadership programme with Manfred Kets de Vries, who became my mentor. I work and live in French, English and Italian.

After years in New York, Paris and Milan, I chose Rome. I like it for the warmth of its connections, for the weather, and for being close enough to the Mediterranean that I can escape easily. My house in Ibiza is my happiest place — mostly off-season, for the nature, the trails, and the water. I care about making spaces and objects slowly and well.

My daughter, Estée, is a designer and entrepreneur in her own right. She trained at Istituto Marangoni, founded UZA, a body-positive swimwear label, and now runs her own creative studio, Mira Studio. Watching her build things from nothing is the part of my work that matters most — passing on the instinct to start, to endure, and to make things that outlast you.
